PlayStation 5 Backwards Compatibility

Thought that old PS4 games won’t have compatibility to PS5? Sony clears things up for us.

Most of PS4 games will work on the new consoles thanks to the Backwards Compatibility system. According to the company, we are talking about 4,000 games. Popular and high rated games will enjoy improved performances thanks to Game Boost.

That not all, according to Sony, you can play PS4 games also by insert PS4 CD games into PS5’s disc drive (won’t work on the PS5 Digital Edition).
You can transfer Games that digital games that installed on your PS4 to your PS5 via WIFI or buy PS4 Games from the digital store and installed them to PS5.
Also, PS VR Games will work like that as well. For them you of course need the PS VR and the PS’s Camera.
Most of 3rd party Accessories will work on the new console generation.

Although these are good news, there are some flaws.

First of all, some options/features of games from previous generation wont work. You might also encounter some bugs when playing PS4 games on your PS5 console. The Game Boost feature on PS5 is not tailored for each and every game, which might cause some issues with the gaming experience.

Sony already aware to this and recommends that before you buy any additions (DLC for example) for the PS4 game, wait for the PS5, run a test and if the base game really work as you wanted, make the purchase.

Like I said the before, there are some PS4 games that you won’t be able to play on PS5. Those games will be marked in the digital store as “Playable on PS4 only”. In the meantime, Sony published list of games that wont support the Backwards Compatibility, the company mention the list can be changed later:

  • DWVR
  • Afro Samurai 2 Revenge of Kuma Volume One
  • TT Isle of Man – Ride on the Edge 2
  • Just Deal With It!
  • Shadow Complex Remastered
  • Robinson: The Journey
  • We Sing
  • Hitman Go: Definitive Edition
  • Shadwen
  • Joe’s Diner

Sony act to reduce the gap between the generations with backward compatibility but it is important to note that the new Xbox is already supports backward compatibility even with games that came out from 2001.
Sony have long journey to get to Xbox’s support feature level, if it’s possible.

Do You Want Playstation 5?

Now you can register to PS5 pre-order!

Sony opened new web page where you can register for a special invite to purchase the new gaming console, the PS5, during the pre-order phase.

This complex process is made, according to Sony, due to the fact that Sony will make limited number of gaming consoles for pre-order. Sony wanted to clarify that this doesn’t mean there will be a shortage in gaming console upon the release date, but they decided to limit the number of pre-ordered consoles this time.

Sony also clarified that registering to the pre-order invites doesn’t necessary means you will get an invite to pre order the console.

This is Sony’s message that appears on the signing page

“There will be a limited quantity of PS5 consoles available for pre-order, so we will be inviting some of our existing consumers to be one of the first to pre-order one from PlayStation. Pre-order reservations will be taken on a first-come-first-serve basis, so once you get an invite via email, we encourage you to follow instructions and act fast.”

In order to register to the pre sale, you will need an active PSN account and you have to own an address inside the US – Every address outside the US will be eliminated.

The PS5 will have Zen 2 processor with 8 cores and a speed of 3.5GHz. The GPU of the console will be able to make over 10 trillion calculation per second with 36 processing units and a dynamic speed of 2.23GHz. The PS5 will have 16GB RAM and 825GB NVMe SSD.

Sony Exposed All Its Information About The PS5

We have been waited so long for some new details about the PS5 and now its here! Sony revealed the official design of the PS5 and few more details about it.

Futuristic Design

The new console looks very futuristic and not ordinary – this fact already “rewarded” the PlayStation 5 to memes all over the internet –

Sony surprised the viewers and said they will release 2 versions of the PS5 –

A standard version with Ultra-HD BlueRay drive, and a digital version that is slimmer and has no CD drive. Microsoft already did it in its last version of the Xbox so this concept is working well.

In the middle of the console you can find 2 usb slots and a Type-C connection (The controllers will finally support USB Type-C).

One of the most important details remain a mystery… Sony didn’t reveal the price of the console.

The digital version will probably be cheaper that the regular version. One twitter account found in Amazon the console with the price tag of 600 pounds which is about $750, but Amazon quickly claimed that this is a replica and not the real product.

Games and Accessories

Along with the console, Sony revealed the controller with a charging station for multiple controllers, 3D headphones, HD camera and smaller remote controller to control the console without holding the big gaming controller.

The specs of the console is another thing to look at.

The PS5 will have Zen 2 processor with 8 cores and a speed of 3.5GHz. The GPU of the console will be able to make over 10 trillion (!?!) calculation per second with 36 processing units and a dynamic speed of 2.23GHz. The PS5 will have 16GB RAM and 825GB NVMe SSD.

We also got a glimpse of the game play experience with this amazing device –

It Just Looks So Good – Sony Revealed its new PS5 Controller

3 weeks after announcing and revealing the full specs of the PS5, Sony shares new information about the controllers!

Get use to it – no more DualShock, it’s now DualSense! Besides the new name PS5 owners will get a new design and some new features.

It seems like after 25 years of the same design for their controllers, Sony is ready to take the chance with a new design. The DualSense is design with some futuristic taste, colored with black and white and it’s unavoidable to think about the stormtroopers for Star Wars when you look at it. It has same buttons as we used to from the PS4, in the top part of the controller we will have the touch screen.

Sony is proud to improve the vibration of the controllers (haptic feedback), and according to them, it is so sensitive now that you will be able to feel the difference when riding in the mud or on a highway.

Another upgrade is for the R2 and L2 buttons, it will allow you to feel the power of the kick or shot.

Another change is the switch from the “share” button on the left side of the remote to a “create” button. Sony claims it will help gamers to create new content easily and share it with the world. Sony didn’t share more than that and we will have to stay patient.

If you are a multiplayer fan you would love to know the remote control has a set of microphones that will allow you to talk with your friends without headset.

The charging will be via Type C cable.

Now we need to wait for the actual look of the console…

Now It’s Sony’s Turn

After Microsoft revealed the full spec of the new Xbox, Sony is ready to do the same and as fans of gaming consoles all we got to do is wish the best of luck for both of them and start saving some cash.

Lets start with the CPU. The PS5 will have Zen 2 processor with 8 cores of AMD with a speed of 3.5 GHz. The GPU is also powerful and will be able to make 10 trillion calculates per second with 36 dynamic processing units with the speed of 2.23 GHz.

The console will have 16 GB RAM and 825 GB of SSD storage.

The PS5 will have a unique feature that the new Xbox lacks – Sony will have some sort of dynamic speed management – the Playstation will allocate power between the CPU and GPU according the game needs.

Sony is very proud in their transition into NVMe based SSD for the new console. It means that if 1GB took 20 sec to load on the PS4, now 2GB will take 0.27 sec to load, pretty amazing right?

The new console will support external hard drives.

The full specs –

  • CPU: AMD Zen 2-based CPU with 8 cores at 3.5GHz (variable frequency)
  • GPU: 10.28 TFLOPs, 36 CUs at 2.23GHz (variable frequency)
  • Memory: 16GB GDDR6 / 256-bit
  • Storage: 825GB SSD
  • Expandable storage: NVMe SSD slot

And how does it looks against the Xbox Series X?

On paper? Both console looks good and pretty much the same.

For now, Microsoft got more attention due to the fact that they managed to get more out of the same processor – CPU of 3.8 GHz. Moreover, the Xbox Series X will offer 1TB of storage.

But we don’t really think any buyer will make his decision based on such small factors and they probably will get the console they are familiar with.

PlayStation 5 Is Coming!

The next generation PlayStation will arrive in late 2020, around the holiday, after a long wait.

Sony released multiple PS4 models – the original PS4, PS4 Slim and PS4 Pro which supports 4K.

In 2019 rumors about a new console started to flow in but no official statement has been made then. Now Sony created an official site for the upcoming console but it doesn’t mean we will have any more details any time soon.

These are few things we do know about the PS5 –

As expected Sony will design the PS5 to improve loading times and graphics.

The PS5 will have 8-core, 16-thread CPU based on AMD’s Zen 2 microarchitecture.

The interface of the console will be upgraded as well by adding new features – You will be able to see what happens in the game without open it – See what multiple player missions are available or on which level you are at.

Sony Revealed New Details About The Playstation 5

Besides revealing that the official name of the new console is going to be Playstation 5 as expected, Sony says the controllers will have modern Haptic systems inside the controllers in order to improve the game play experience. The controllers will vibrate according to the game. According to Sony, you will be able to feel the difference between a crash of a car and being tackled in the football field or even feel the difference if your character is running in the field or in the mud.

The buttons on the controllers will be sensitive to pressure so game developers will be able to create some sense of resistance while pushing the buttons. For example, if you shoot an arrow, you will be able to feel the resistance before releasing the arrow, in racing games you will be able to feel the resistance of the gas pedal. Sony claims that developers already got a prototype of these controllers so they will be able to develop games that supports it right away.

Jim Ryan, CEO and president of Sony said – the Playstation 5 will have SSD hard drive which allows developers to make lighter games. The new console will arrive with a Blu-ray and 4k disk compartment. The processor will be AMD model Ryzen with 8 cores.

The new console is expected to be released in the holiday time next year, 2020, about a year from now.
