Apple Ordered Fold-able Screens From Samsung

Apple takes the first step toward folding iPhone – Apple ordered fold-able screens from Samsung in order to test the possibility to manufacture folding phone.

This information was leaked by the Chinese leaker “ice universe” – see it here.

According to the report, Apple ordered small quantities and not enough screens for mass production, so we can assume that we won’t see a folding iPhone in the next year or two (mobile device manufacture takes about 18 months).

Samsung was already the key supplier for Apple. According to estimations, 70 million OLED screens were sold to Apple for the manufacture process of the iPhone 12. For comparison, Apple ordered the same screens from LG in much lower quantity – 18 millions.

Reports about a folding iPhone started to appear already in 2017. Back then it said that LG will be the key supplier for these screens in 2020 and that the two, Apple and LG will open a factory together. Nevertheless, Apple wrote a patent on a folding screen earlier this year. Later, some reports claimed that Apple won’t build a folding phone but make one with two screens – like Microsoft’s Surface Duo.

Other reports says that the folding device will be iPad and not iPhone.

Apple Is Now Worth 2 Trillions

For the first time ever, Apple is already worth 2 trillions!

The stock value of Apple doubled itself since March 2020, but it doesn’t show the whole story of the tech giant.

Two years after Apple became the first company to reach 1 trillion, Apple doesn’t stop and now the value of the company passed the 2 trillion mark. This new estimation shows how much the investors trust Apple and its board.

Apple joins to Aramco, the Saudian oil company as the only two companies to cross the 2 trillion mark. But Aramco already manage to lose that title in cross it back down, so now Apple is ranked #1 in estimate value among all the companies in the world.

This new estimation happened after Apple’s stock crossed the $467.77 price a share, but during the trading day the price dropped to $462.83 and that dropped them under 2 trillions.

This new record is surprising because Apple announced back in February that due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Apple might suffer loses.

Since March 23rd, the stock just keeps on rising and almost double itself during this 5 month. This value increment happened Apple announced they had profits of almost 60 Billion dollars in the second quarter, 11% better than q2 of 2019.

But there are other things Apple should focus on, the company now facing some serious legal issues when the European Union found out they keep listening on customers , and that Apple takes 30% commissions on apps.

Apple’s WWDC 2020

In an online event and for the first time ever – no audience, Apple announced many updates and changes to its operation system – it seems like they have updated all operation systems for almost every product they had.

Apple announced on iOS14 that will arrive to the devices on the upcoming fall – there is no specific date for now.

The new iOS does not contain any major changes, but we can feel that Apple went on many features and improved them. Improved the maps app by adding new features like bike navigation, added a feature that will collect apps together to “App Library”, added the reply feature to the messages app and added a built-in translation to words.

Apple also changed the size of Siri and now it does not capture the whole screen while working, added a feature of a picture inside a picture, watch videos in a small window while working on something else and improved the performance of speech to text.

Few new significant feature are –

CarKey – allow you to lock, open and start your car (currently working with BMW only) from your phone.

App Clips – allows you to download a smaller version of an app (10MB) – like running a “lite” version instead of the full one. This will work as a preview to the full app.

All of the changes above will arrive to the iPad as well along with some special features for iPads.

For example –

Music App – now the app will show you the words of the song.

Hand write to text – The pen will transform your hand write to text – if you use the pen to write something in the search bar it will transform it to text and run the search.

The app “Activity” changed its name to “Fitness” and Apple added many features –

New training that is based on dancing.

The calories tracking is improved.

More advanced training with breaks between intervals and recovery tracking.

The watch will know if you wash your hands and will count the number of seconds the washing took.

And the most important one – Sleep Tracking.

MacOS 11 Big Sur

Apple revealed the new OS – Big Sur. Apple improved most of the apps such as Maps, Messages and Safari – that according to Apple, it is now 50% faster than Google Chrome.

The President Of Microsoft Calls To Investigate Apple

The president of Microsoft, Brad Smith, says that the app store should work under supervisions and regulations.

Few days before Apple’s big event – WWDC where Apple will announce new products and developments such as IOS 14, IPad OS 14, WatchOS 7, new Mac and new iMac, Apple find itself under criticism – The European Union opened an investigation about new information that came from an ex-employee who claimed that Apple keeps recording users without their knowledge and the founder of Basecamp called them “gangsters” because they rejected his app’s version update due to the fact the billing system of the app is not related to Apple.

Now, one of Apple’s biggest competitors – Microsoft, is on the offence.

Microsoft’s president Brad Smith interviewed to the site “politico” and said that he is against Apple’s policy about apps. Smith is in favor of the investigations against Apple and said that their behavior eliminates competition.

Smith said:

“They impose requirements that increasingly say there is only one way to get on to our platform and that is to go through the gate that we ourselves have created. In some cases they create a very high price per toll — in some cases 30% of your revenue has to go to the toll keeper.” Smith continued – “The time has come — whether we are talking about D.C. or Brussels — for a much more focused conversation about the nature of app stores, the rules that are being put in place, the prices and the tolls that are being extracted and whether there is really a justification in antitrust law for everything that has been created”.

According to Smith, for a long time, tech giants such as Apple and Google, try to create one way to do things, and it is their way only. For example, Fortnite tried to publish their mobile version outside Google Play in order to avoid paying such high fee, which can get as high as 30%, but lost the case in court and now they must publish the game on Google’s store.

Microsoft know what they are talking about – in the 90’s Microsoft tried to fight Netscape, which developed internet browsers and was the biggest competitors to Microsoft’s internet explorer, by bundle internet explorer with every copy on Windows. Microsoft got many fines and had to pay compensation.

Apple responded to the investigation and said on Tuesday –  “it’s disappointing the European Commission is advancing baseless complaints from a handful of companies who simply want a free ride, and don’t want to play by the same rules as everyone else.”
