People all over the world love video games, so much that the industry raked in an astounding $140 billion in 2019 alone. But how much money each game and franchise actually gain till today? Today we have a list of the top video games that have made an insane amount of money. Without any feather discussions, let’s get into it.

12. The Legend of Zelda – $1,400,000,000

The Zelda series exist since 1986 thanks to Nintendo and became a big hit. The series is a mix of puzzles, action, adventure and exploration. The Zelda series became one of Nintendo’s most successful franchises and many consider it to be best video games ever made.

Although , The Legend of Zelda is imaginary/fantasy game, it is actually inspired by the real word. The game designer and the creator Shigeru Miyamoto loved the nature and used to travel and explore the forests, lakes and caves that were near by to his hometown of Sonobe, Japan. Princess Zelda actually takes her name for American author and socialite Zelda Fitzgerald, while Link’s appearance was combination between Peter Pan and Tinkerbell.

A series of incredibly successful video games and several well-known films were inspired but none other then Tom Clancy’s books. Rainbow Six games were first released in the late 1990s and got reborn in 2015 under the name Rainbow Six: Siege.

We can’t ignore one of the most successful building games revolutionary in the history – The Minecraft. Minecraft have been sold over 200 million copies till now and became the best-selling video game of all time in terms of units sold. This game became so popular that we got reported it even reached to 126 million users playing monthly.

The freedom that the game offers is a huge part of it mass appeal and thanks to the big community, there are so many Mods. Mods are an output or process of adding custom items and blocks to Minecraft. Modding allows users to expand the open-ended game, incorporating new tools, blocks, mobs, and more. With mods there are so many in-game games and calibration with other games that made by fans, for example you can actually play Pokémon in Minecraft thanks to mods.

9. Halo Franchise – $5,000,000,000

The outer space franchise shooting game, Halo, is based on a plot about war between humanity and evil aliens known as “The Covenant”. The first game in the series first released in 2001 and after that, the series sold over 65 million copies worldwide. The first games of the series were big success by many and even acknowledge as the best first-person shooter games that released by Xbox.

8. PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds – $5,000,000,000

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds also known by name PUBG, was released by South Korean video game company Bluehole in 2017. PUBG is based on the Japanese movies Battle Royale and came with features as a shooting battle royal genre game.

Probably the most classic of all the games in the list. On the summer of 1984 Russian mathematician Alexey Pajitnov created the game Tetris. He first showed it out to close friends and he never expected it to be a worldwide sensation.

Eventually Tetris was picked up by gaming enthusiast and businessman Hank Rogers, which sold it to Nintendo back then. Sadly, Pajitnov didn’t gain anything of the revenue until 1991, when he moved to US and joined forces with Rogers. In the meantime, he missed out millions of dollars from the deal that Rogers done. Happily, to date, the rights are back in the hands of its rightful owner while the game sold more then 200 million copies.

6. Grand Theft Auto Franchise – $9,000,000,000

The Grand Theft Auto series is an open world games where mostly the theme is to slowly climb up in the underworld hierarchy or take revenge against crime organization. Each game in the GTA series took different place and city in America. The funny part is, that GTA was developed in the UK by Rockstar North.

Even though its an on going successful series, many articles criticized it as a violent real-life crime game. Many countries such as Britain, Germany, and France are against the game even if it’s still sold in their countries and even Brazil banned it outright.

Warcraft is a real time strategy game where players control in-game armies and fight against other players or against the computer. The game take place in fantasy world where humans, elves, orcs, undead and many other creatures live there.

One of my childhood’s favorite video game series and tv show is none other the Pokémon, known also as “Pocket Monster”. Pokémon Franchise is owned by three companies: Nintendo, Game Freak, and Creatures, but it is managed by Nintendo in North America. Pokémon is the highest top grossing media franchise of all time, with an estimated 9$ billion revenue.

When the co-creator Satoshi Tajiri gave the idea to Nintendo, at first no one really understood the idea of being able to trade “monsters” between players and use them to battle one another. According to his previous success in the company, Satoshi and partner Ken Sugimori were given the green light to develop the first game under Shigeru Miyamoto’s instructions.

2. Call of Duty Series – $15,000,000,000

Call of Duty was first published in 2013 by the California-based Activision. The first game was based on World war II and even include the cold war, futuristic, and outer-space settings. Only by February 2016, the series has sold over 250 million copies.

KFC and Gaming?

No, this isn’t one of the April Fool jokes you usually hear – KFC, the famous fast food global restaurant network, announced on a gaming food console/pc. We are talking about a cooperation between KFC Gaming and Cooler Master to create a mini pc with the shape of the known KFC chicken bucket with actual heating food space inside the console/mini pc.

Many laughed about the “KFConsole” since June but it actually happening. This is not a console such as PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X, but a mini gaming pc that designed by Tim Malmborg.

The device based on Cooler Master’s Master Case – NC100 pc case and use Intel’s Compute Element Module NUC9 Extreme.

We don’t know the spec of KFConsole yet but we can assume that since the model NUC9 can come with Intel Core i9-9980K and Seagate SDD 1TB storage the console with have the same specs.

The Graphic Card of the device might be from Asus cooperation with Nvidia’s GeForce RTX, and categorized by the company that this device will provide high quality smooth gaming with support 4k with 240FPS and 240 Hz.

The cylindrical bucket design and the chicken bay [are] two separate features that by themselves [are] challenging to work with. And then combined with a high-performance PC, well, I had to spend days creating the 3D model for it.”

Leak: GeForce RTX 3000 Mobility

According to new leaks that came up from Wccftech ( a website that leaked Nvidia’s presentation pages), we can understand that Nvidia is about to announce on their new laptop graphic card – The GeForce RTX 3000 Mobility that will be based on Ampere core.

The new laptop graphic cards will come as mobile version of the 3000 desktop graphic cards series, GTX 3060, GTX 3070 and GTX 3080.

The leak also includes the price tag of the certain laptops that will acquire the individual graphic card with price tag starting at $999.

The RTX 3000 Mobility come to replace the RTX 2000 series and the RTX 2000 Super and align with the desktop graphic card 3000 series. Among the mobile version cards, we have:

  • RTX 3080 – will be based on GN20-E7 core with 6144 CUDA cores, memory size of 8GB or 16GB and memory type will be GDDR6X.
  • RTX 3070 – will be based on GN20-E5 core with 588 CUDA cores, memory size of 8GB and memory type will be GDDR6X.

The interesting this is that we can find in the leaks is that the recommend price tag for each laptop that acquire the new RTX 3000 mobility GPU.

AMD Radeon RX 6000 Series Is Here

On October 28th at AMD’s 2nd event , “Where Gaming Begins Ep. 2”, the company announced on their new graphic card generation series – the Radeon RX 6000. Radeon RX 6000 join to the Ryzen 5000 processors that was announced earlier this month. AMD announced 3 graphic cards and one of them is considered the flag ship model – the Radeon RX 6900 XT, which managed to offer the same and even better performance than its competitor – The Nvidia GeForce RTX 3900.

The new graphic card generation is equipped with new technology that improve the performance by 54% to 65% with the new RDNA 2 core, compared to the original RDNA from Radeon RX 5000. One of the important changes is the Radeon RX 6000 comes with built-in support of Microsoft’s DirectX 12 Ultimate and RayTracing technologic.

Among the new upgrades that AMD done to the new generation is adding new cache technologic – the Infinite Cache with size of 128mb, which allows the 16GB RAM type GDDR6 and memory interface of 256-bit to reach memory bandwidth of up to 512Gb/s which is 2.17 times more then memory interface of 385-bit and 10% less GPU Power needed.

According to the performance tests that AMD presented during the event, the company succeeded to go head to head with Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 3000 series.

Assassin’s Creed is Coming to Netflix

Netflix announced their cooperation with Ubisoft, and we are expected to see 2 of Ubisoft’s games turn into a TV series. The first series that was announced as a part of the agreement is the Assassin’s Creed game series.

The Assassin’s Creed game series started in 2007 and combined action game style, history and science fiction.

The series is about long wars between the Assassins and Templars. The Assassins want freedom and freewill and Templars want order and control. Since 2007 11 games came out as part of this series.

Assassin’s Creed already came to screens with the movie “Assassin’s Creed” at 2016, which Michael Fassbender (“X-Men: Dark Phoenix”) took a main role there. And now, following the agreement with Netflix, the managers of Ubisoft’s television section start working on the TV version series along with Netflix.

The Assassin’s Creed tv series doesn’t have a director yet, which mean it is going to take a while until we see the tv show on the screens.

This is not the only game from Ubisoft that will end up as a TV series. Ubisoft and Apple brought the game Mythic Quest to Apple TV+ with the name “Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet”.

Ubisoft also working on making a movie for their game Beyond Good & Evil. The movie will be made as a live action movie and will be directed by Rob Letterman (“Pokémon Detective Pikachu” director).

Ubisoft Connect – Multi-Platform Support

Ubisoft Entertainment SA is a French video game company, which lately announced on Ubisoft Connect a combination between the company’s digital game store – Uplay and “Ubisoft Club”. For now on, Ubisoft Connect will be the place where you can buy Ubisoft’s digital games, enjoy bonuses and different account rewards based on the XP you gain from games.

Among the new features that Ubisoft Connect brings to the table is the ability to support Multi-Platform games. Which means that PC users and consoles users will be able to play with each other. Another feature is the Cross Progression technologic which allows to transfer game’s progression between platforms easily.

Ubisoft Connect services will be launch to all platforms on November 10th and will be available for the new generation of consoles right when they will be launched. Later this year, November-December apparently, Connect might come to “Streaming services” such as Google Stadia, Nvidia GeForce NOW and also to new Amazon’s games services – Luna.
